Italy Under 21 Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi is disappointed after his side were knocked out of the European Under 21 tournament in Sweden.

Italian Under 21 Coach Pierluigi CasiraghiThe Azzurrini were on top for long spells of the game against Germany but were unable to capitalise on the chances they created.

Andreas Beck scored what proved to be the winning goal just after half time, it was Germany's first shot of the game.

“I don't know what to say. Sure, it's a disappointment that leaves a mark. At the very least, let the night pass,” Casiraghi said.

“We played a great game, perhaps, the best of the European Championship, above all in the first half.

“This is a great group that has to be proud of what it has done. The future is these lads and victories often come from certain disappointments.”

Casiraghi is now expected to meet with the President of the Italian Football Federation, Giancarlo Abete to discuss his future.

“The intention is that of proceeding along a common path, but we have both given each other some time before we speak again,” Casiraghi explained.

The Press in Italy have already tipped former Bari Coach Antonio Conte to take over, should Casiraghi walk away.
